Tyler Clementi Story

1. I think that Ravi and Wei are all responsible for his death. They violated his privacy and they also humiliated him and made a joke out of his lifestyle. They had no respect for him. The school could also be responsible because they let Ravi continue to record him after the first encounter and he attempted to record Clementi again on the 21st and the school did nothing about the invasion on the 19th such as taking action against Ravi before Clementi did something rash on his own without support from his university.

2. Something could have been done to prevent this. His peers could have stood up for him, and the university should have shut Ravi down after the first encounter and charged him with invasion of privacy that he now holds. I think that no one stood up due to ignorance, but also gay rights have not passed and yet some people consider it taboo or wrong.

3. Anti-bullying laws will impact cases like this by schools adopting this legislation they will protect like Clementi such harassment that could lead suicide or emotional health problems. After Clementi's suicide, New Jersey's anti-bullying legislation got national attention and became the country's toughest anti-bullying legislation. Due to anti-bulling laws in New Jersey, students like Ravi and Wei are dealt with appropriately.

Student Expectations Answers

1. When Professor Grossman says that the standard grade is a C, because I believe that hard work should earn you a good grade. I think that because hard work shows how much you care and how much time you put into the class.

2. I think that students believe that they should receive an A because of their experiences in high school. High school taught them it was easy to receive a high grade. I don't think that it is because Grade A is seen as the new average because it is still seen as above average. I sometimes think that parents thinking that "my child is perfect, it is the instructor's fault" is a cause because some parents want to see high grades and are willing to fight for it even when the students are not.

3. I think that this article did a good job at explaining the subject because it included studies on the subject. I think that they were partly right because some students do expect to get a higher grade than they earned. I deserve grades based on my effort because it reflects my strengths and weaknesses.
School should be a better place. It is so undisciplined. Students talk when the teacher is talking. Sometimes you see a student chewing gum or talking on their cell phone. One day a student threw a pencil; it landed in the ceiling. I didn't know that it happened until the teacher reacted in surprise and I looked up at the ceiling. I blame this on two things. First of all, many students don't care about school. Also, the teachers often do little to control these students.
